DUNGEON DEGENERATES Play Along Adventure - Turn 4
over 7 years ago – Mon, Oct 24, 2016 at 12:39:51 PM

You wait patiently for the Alchemist as he follows a passage around the circumference of the watchtower & reunites with you at the exit. The sharp burning sensation lingering from the application of daemon’s blood across your skin seems to die down to a tolerable level & you bandage the cuts you received the best you can before heading out on the road. You head South at a fast pace & make good time, but you can tell the Alchemist is growing road weary as you skirt the base of Witch Hill.

A glint of metal amongst the trees catches your eye. Ready for battle, you cautiously approach to find a shrine just off the road, with gold scattered amongst the other offerings left by pilgrims who came this way a month or more ago. Bad luck to rob a shrine, but then again you don’t care about such superstitious nonsense. You exchange glances with the Alchemist & his half-grin tells you he is on the same page. You eagerly approach the shrine & begin collecting whatever valuables you can find.

With a sudden piercing shriek, an enormous mutated rat lunges from its hidden lair behind the shrine & sinks its teeth into your leg! You smash its skull & peel its filthy teeth from your calf - what a mess! Thankfully you know a slimy fellow back in Pigskin Port by the name of Lazar who will trade for its meat. The Alchemist helps you butcher the thing & then you both set about collecting the various coins strewn around the shine amongst the rotted flowers & melted candles.

Eager to leave the scene of your crime, you & the Alchemist travel Northeast through the haunted Witchwood towards the Northern fork of the Stinkendblut River. The Alchemist knows about a ford where savage people who fled the Wasteland settled in huts built on stilts. You make slow progress through the dense woodland, eerily devoid of birds & animals along this path. The Alchemist is quiet as you travel, intensely focused on the lichen-coated trees around you & ready for trouble from any direction.

Miraculously you reach the village safely by nightfall & are able to rest in a soggy, cramped hut that reeks of fish. You clean your rat bite thoroughly & get as much sleep as you can in a cot made for someone half your size. The noise of the village wakes you at the crack of dawn although you feel like you’ve hardly slept. You clench your fists with frustration as the voices of the locals convening for market along the riverbank drive you out of bed. You’d better keep your cool in town, but the next monster that comes after you is going to get it!

The Alchemist drags you along to the local market, but you see little here of interest because all you can think about it is finding a dry place to sleep. Your attention drifts as the Alchemist turns down an enthusiastic sales pitch from a local thrusting a glyph-covered parchment in his face. You’re caught by surprise when a grubby local slips beside the alchemist in the market crowd & suddenly draws a knife from beneath his cloak & jabs it into the Alchemist’s ribs! Falling back, the Alchemist draws & fires his pistol over the mugger’s head as you fight your way through the scattering crowd. You grip the thug by the arm & try to twist it off, but the Alchemist’s second shot rips through the thug’s head. Another thug from out of the market crowd pounces on the Alchemist & begins to beat him senseless, but you pry him off & break his back.

Going through the Footpad’s pockets, the Alchemist finds & eagerly pockets a small pouch of pungent dried plant. The Alchemist calls it witch weed & as he rolls it up in paper & smokes it carefully, his wounds seem to pain him less. The locals from the market keep their distance, eyeing you with fear or animosity. The Alchemist makes a nonsensical joke about the price of fish just going up & you realize you’re definitely awake now. You’d better decide what to do next…

Here's a time-lapse video of Sean drawing a Harpy!

Evade: If you're attacking her with a melee weapon, doubles always miss.

Pursue: Want to escape? Too bad, you can't until you kill the Harpy!
